Luma Jasim is an Iraqi born visual artist, currently pursuing her second master's degree in fine arts at PARSONS in New York City. She received her second bachelor of fine arts, with an emphasis on painting and drawing from Boise State University in 2013. Luma also holds bachelor's (1997) and master's (2000) degrees in fine arts from Baghdad University in graphic design. Luma emigrated from her home country to live in Istanbul, Turkey in 2006. She has 10 years experience in graphic design and animation in Baghdad and Istanbul. In 2008 she moved to the U.S. Luma's artwork consists mostly of her experiences with war, violence, immigration and the acculturation, which rises from those phenomena. She often uses mixed media with nontraditional materials like tar and shellac, incorporating photography and video art. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Arizona, Idaho and Japan.
